WHAT ARE CERAMIC FIBER ROPES AND TAPES?

Ceramic fiber rope tapes are high-performance insulation materials designed to withstand extreme temperatures. Axim Mica’s offerings consist of high-quality refractory ceramic fibers intricately woven into ropes and tapes, providing exceptional thermal resistance up to 1260°C (2300°F).

These versatile products combine durability with flexibility, making them ideal for a wide range of industrial applications. The ceramic fibers are reinforced with fiberglass filaments or metal wires (stainless steel or high-temperature alloys) to enhance strength and resilience.

Available in various diameters and widths, ceramic fiber rope tapes can be customized to meet specific project requirements. They offer excellent resistance to chemical corrosion, molten metal erosion, and thermal shock, ensuring reliable performance in harsh environments.

APPLICATIONS

Renowned for their exceptional thermal resistance and durability, ceramic fiber rope/tapes find application across a wide range of industries and processes involving high temperatures:

  • High-temperature gaskets and seals for furnaces, kilns, and ovens
  • Door seals and linings for boilers, reformers, and industrial furnaces
  • Insulation wrapping and protection for pipes, hoses, and cables
  • Expansion joint seals in high-heat equipment
  • Removable insulating blankets for welding applications
  • Filtration media in high-temperature environments
  • Thermal insulation in glass production furnaces

BENEFITS & ADVANTAGES OF USING CERAMIC FIBER ROPES AND TAPES

Designed to withstand the harshest conditions, Axim Mica’s ceramic fiber rope/tapes offer a multitude of advantages that propel operational excellence across industries.

  • Unmatched Thermal Protection: With temperature resistance up to 1260°C (2300°F), these rope tapes safeguard personnel and equipment from extreme heat exposure.
  • Uncompromised Energy Efficiency: Their low thermal conductivity minimizes heat transfer, translating into substantial energy savings and reduced operational costs.
  • Prolonged Asset Lifespan: The exceptional chemical inertness and resistance to thermal shock prevent premature degradation, extending the service life of critical assets.
  • Minimized Downtime: Robust construction ensures reliable insulation and sealing, reducing the need for frequent repairs or replacements, thereby maximizing uptime.
  • Versatile Applications: From high-temperature gaskets and furnace linings to removable insulating blankets, these rope tapes cater to diverse industrial needs.
  • Customizable Solutions: With a range of configurations, including twisted, braided, and tape forms, Axim Mica offers tailored ceramic fiber solutions for specific requirements.

TYPES OF CERAMIC FIBER ROPES AND TAPES

Axim Mica offers a range of ceramic fiber rope tapes, each tailored to specific temperature and strength requirements, to serve our clients.

  • Twisted Rope: Fabricated from ceramic fiber yarn twisted in left-hand and right-hand patterns, these ropes are available in diameters ranging from 3 mm to 50 mm. Reinforced with fiberglass filaments, stainless steel wire, or high-temperature alloy wire, they provide exceptional strength at elevated temperatures.
  • Square Braided Rope: Also known as square packing, this dense and resilient option is plaited from ceramic fiber yarn reinforced with E-glass, stainless steel wire, or high-temperature alloy wire. The square cross-section ensures a flush fit against flat surfaces or in square paths, making it ideal for sealing applications like furnace or oven door seals.
  • Round Braided Rope: Similar to the square braided variant, this type features a round cross-section for versatility in applications where a cylindrical profile is preferred.
  • Ceramic Fiber Tape: Axim Mica’s ceramic fiber tapes are narrow, woven fabrics reinforced with high-temperature fiberglass. Their flat configuration makes them suitable for gaskets, insulation wrapping, and protection for hoses, pipes, and cables in high-temperature environments.

HOW CERAMIC FIBER ROPES AND TAPES ARE MADE

At Axim Mica, we use an advanced automated production process for our ceramic fiber rope and tapes to superior quality, efficiency, and consistency.

  1. Fiber Production: Axim Mica’s process commences with the extrusion of high-purity ceramic fibers, carefully composed of alumina, silica, and other refractory oxides through precise spinnerets, ensuring uniform fiber diameters.
  2. Fiber Carding and Blanket Formation: These fibers undergo carding, evenly distributing and layering them to form a lightweight, consistent blanket – a crucial step for achieving the desired density and mechanical properties.
  3. Needling Process: The layered blanket is then needled, where barbed needles interlock the fibers, creating a sturdy, cohesive structure without binders or additives.
  4. Slitting, Weaving, and Braiding: The needled blanket is precision-slit into tapes or strands, which are woven or braided into specific configurations like twisted ropes, square braided ropes, or flat tapes, incorporating reinforcement materials for enhanced strength.
  5. Heat Treatment: A controlled heat treatment process follows, removing residual organics and stabilizing the ceramic fibers for optimal thermal resistance in high-temperature applications.
  6. Quality Control: Throughout production, rigorous testing and inspection protocols ensure compliance with technical specifications for thermal resistance, strength, and dimensional accuracy.
